What is Tibetan Medicine?
Tibetan Medicine- one of the world’s oldest healing traditions, has been practised for more than four thousand years. TM, called “Sowa Rigpa” in Tibetan, means the knowledge and science of healing. “Sowa” means to heal the imbalanced, and “Rigpa” means the knowledge or science of a particular subject.
Causes of Disease in Tibetan Medicine
Tibetan medicine also borrows and shares certain ideas with the Buddhist tradition. For instance, “cause and effect” is one of the major concepts that Tibetan Medicine. Within Tibetan Medicine, there are two major causes of all illnesses: long-term causative factors and short- term (immediate) causative factors.
The fundamental principle of Tibetan medicine is that the body, the disease, and treatment all share common principles and comprise the five elements, earth, fire, water, air, and space. This approach recognizes that everything in the universe – plants, animals, and human beings, including all our body tissues, internal organs, skin, skeletal system and even emotions, are composed of these five elements. Each of them plays a major role, both individually and in combination as aspects of all matter. The five elements maintain reciprocal relationships. When they stay in balance, it results in a healthy body and mind.
Analyzing methods
Tibetan medicine uses three analyzing methods when examining a client -observing, palpating (feeling), and inquiring about current health issues.
Treatment methods
Tibetan medicine equally considers diet, nutrition, behaviour, and lifestyle as essential elements of successful treatment. Apart from these methods, Tibetan medicine also applies accessory therapies to promote positive treatment results. These therapies may include foot, face, and hand neuro-reflexology.

Today´s Method Of Use
The Tibetan way of looking at disease, analyzing disease, mind/body health, and body homeostasis is very different from the western way.
However, there are some aspects of Tibetan reflexology that have been explained through the understanding of modern medicine as seen from the westerner’s mind.
There are many methods of TCM reflexology (e.g.: Five Elements or the Eight Principles way of analysis and treatment), is all about establishing TCM analysis first then applying stimulation of zones and points related to body meridians and Central Nerve System to achieve a natural flow of vital energy.
TCM is a highly complex, validated and refined system of analysis and treatment that has been successfully used for thousands of years by millions of people.
The method of analysis is the same system used in the Facial Reflexology Therapy sorensensistem™ method and the fundamental philosophy, approach and application of Tibetan medicine is the same.
